My Story...
Joyce Pomeroy, Founder and President of Last Stop Horse Rescue, is a retired first Lieutenant with the Fire Department. She was honored with several awards and recognitions for her years of volunteer service as a Firefighter and EMT. Joyce also managed Hudson Valley Cardiology for 18 years. She was an EMT instructor for New York State and taught various vocational medical classes as well.

Joyce discovered her life’s passion for rescuing horses when she met an Appaloosa pony named Emma. Witnessing how hurt Emma was from years of being mishandled, misunderstood, abused, and resold, Joyce made it her life’s mission to rescue, rehab, and provide sanctuary for horses like Emma. She whispered to the little pony, “This is your last stop, girl. Thus, Last Stop Horse Rescue was born.

Joyce would dedicate her life to studying natural horsemanship techniques and applying those principles to equine rescue and rehabilitation. Joyce relocated the rescue to Gainesville, Georgia, in 2015. Throughout her endeavors, she’s rescued many horses requiring specialized care.. the blind, the elderly, and those with severe behavioral issues. In addition, she has trained a core group of volunteers who support her invaluable work.

Joyce has authored several books about the horses at the rescue. Her first book, Believe in Miracles: Lessons from the animals at Last Stop Horse Rescue, was written to teach children heartwarming lessons of love, hope, and friendship...
